Acupuncture Detox Ireland
NADA Eireann is run by Margie Shelley and Lorraine Stewart who are both registered NADA trainers and for the last number of years have worked primarily within community based projects providing training courses to the staff of these centres.
The benefits of the treatment have proven to be so effective that the “Five Point Protocol” is now being used in the commercial world to combat stress and promote health and wellbeing among their staff.
To date we have provided training in centres throughout the country, including Cork, Waterford, Limerick, Tipperary. The training is provided in groups of between ten and up to forty people using quality standards and best practice. For more information on this please contact Margie or Lorraine
Acupuncture for Substance Use
Acupuncture treatment for substance dependence was first reported by a Hong Kong based neurosurgeon Dr. Wen in 1973. In 1974, Dr Michael Smith, Medical Director of the Substance Abuse Division at the Lincoln Hospital New York, introduced auricular acupuncture as part of treatment for people in recovery.
According to Chinese tradition, placing acupuncture needles in the ear affect specific organs such as the liver and kidneys. Western science has confirmed that acupuncture treatments change levels of chemicals in the body and act on the nervous system.
NADA Eireann
This treatment which concentrates on five specific points on the ear has become renound throughout the World and is regarded as one of the most effective forms of treatment for addiction and management of stress. Jim Byrne is the founder of NADA Eireann. In 1997, he first introduced the five point protocol into Ireland. Jim trained Lorraine Stewart and Margie Shelley as trainers and they now continue Jim’s work throughout Ireland. In recent years this treatment has gained popularity among the general public, looking for an alternative treatment to combat stress. Given the fact that the treatments are conducted in a group setting it is both time and cost effective for all.
Acupuncturists Without Borders (AWB)
More recently, the NADA ear protocol has been used with good results for the treatment of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), not only with victims and relief workers after disasters, but with veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. Researchers have found that ear acupuncture offered effective trauma relief in the form of reduced stress and anxiety, better sleep, and a decrease in the need for prescription drugs.
